Learning Introduction

Armagh County Museum is keen to foster links with the local community. Whatever the age group or area of interest, Museum staff will make you feel welcome and ensure that your visit to the Museum is worthwhile. Arrangements can be made to hear more about the work of the Museum, the scope of its collections or have a tour of special exhibitions. All activities are free of charge.

If normal opening times and not convenient, every effort will be made to accommodate evening visits. Societies looking for visiting speakers might also consider contacting the Curator or Deputy Curator whose interests include local history and archaeology.

A particular focus of the Museum’s education programme is geared towards helping primary schools.

Primary schools

In addition to the range of temporary exhibitions which may be relevant to your school (see what’s on), the Museum offers a series of workshops based around the primary school curriculum. These take place in the Museum and use objects and resources from the collections to illustrate and explore the topics.

Booking details for primary schools

If you are interested in attending a workshop or require further details, please contact the secretary. The following information will help you make the most of your visit.

On contacting the Museum you will be asked to provide basic details including class size, and age range, along with any other specific requirements you may need.
There is no charge for a workshops.
Your booking will be confirmed by letter or e-mail.
Sessions are geared towards an average class size. If you are considering bringing a larger group please discuss this with the secretary as some workshops are not suitable for larger groups.
Prior knowledge of the topic is not essential and range of learning abilities will be catered for.
A visiting time in the region of 1½ hours maximum is recommended (see opening times).
If a work sheet is required please bring this along – these will be supplied in the post or can be downloaded. Please copy one for each pupil.
The Museum has wheelchair access and a lift.
The Museum operates a child protection policy.
The Museum has a shop.
The Museum has no catering facilities and limited space for breaks or pack lunches.
